Hi Darcy,
Just thought I would send you some info on a repair for the 2005-06 Jeep 6 cyl. "OPDA failures".
We have mine repaired & wanted to show how it was done, so to be a help to other Jeep owners that may have the similar issue/problem.
The info & pictures are on the last page of my store's website as listed in the fwd email from me following this intro email.
I put the info on http://www.wranglerforum.com but couldn't add the pictures, not sure why.
Anyway, I hope it can be a help,
Grant Patton

Subject: OPDA - 2005 Jeep TJ - Customized fix with machining, sealed bearing & bushings.

My mechanic checked my 2005 Jeep TJ's OPDA at 58,000 km (Canada) & it had abnormal wear, so replaced it with new but customized OPDA.

The upper end/top bushing can't get any lube due to the oil seal being beneath the bushing. Just a matter of time & I wasn't going to take a chance, so called in my son-in-law & his father for the cure/fix. OPDA was taken to an elderly machinist who did an excellent job of the customizing!

- The custom upgrade included machining the casing to insert a larger brass bushing for the sealed bearing to fit into & then another small brass bushing to fit inside the sealed bearing to allow a proper fit for the shaft to slip through - working great so far & oil pressure is up.

Also added 10W40 Amsoil high zinc oil, which also helped the oil pressure & protection for the hot running 4lt / in line 6cyl motor.

Now much more relaxed when driving my Jeep!

Please email me for pictures & video explaining the procedure.
