so I just got a 98 xj sport 4.0 and we cannot get it started, we have tested the fuel, spark and air which all are fine except the spark is bright orange, we have also checked the positioning of the distributer plus set the piston to top dead center, also checked the crank positon sensor, cleaned out the distributer, plus the computer wont throw a code and we cleaned and reattached the grounds. we also replaced the coil which did not help and replaced the cam position sensor. after all of this it still wont run but It turns over. :(

Hey Kaliem, have you checked what the battery voltage is going to the coil? And does this voltage change when cranking?

HMM that doesn't seem right. I would think it should have 12 volts all the time key power is on. Maybe check your grounds on the engine. Even run a fresh ground wire to the coil and test it again? You could even run a fused power and fresh ground wire from the battery to the coil to see if it will run when cranked, just remember you've now bypassed the key from being able to shut it off, so you would have to un hook the wire you just installed to kill the power... Compare it with the other race jeeps? Steve doesn't wanna work on it?
