Running into issues with finding a spot for my steering box. There is a fully boxed in cross member right in the optimum spot for the steering box. Moving it back a bit would work, but then i have tie rod to pitman arm clearance issue. Cant go forward as it would be where the grill is.

Question i have is, rather than the usual way of running sleeves thru the frame for the bolts. Can i make a plate to be welded to frame with "studs" on it to bolt the box to? I know strength of studs becomes the issue.

Its a Scout box and mounts to outside of frame btw.

I would think that should work. A grade 8 'stud' would be pretty tough to break. Is there some way to add a top and bottom to your plate to provide more stress distribution on the top and bottom of the frame instead of just the side? More of a C instead of a plate.

Not really, the sector shaft would be in way. Was thinking of maybe like a clamp type to go around the shaft.

Guess its best to try and see. Play lighly till you know it holds up. Watch for any signs of stress and reinforce at that point.
