Fab Table

Postby Eagle Jeeper » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:54 pm

Had the weekend to myself in the shop so I thought it was time to start on a welding/fab table. I look around the internet and found some cool ideas. Its going to have a 2x4 1/2" top with a 3" lip for easy clamping, 40" tall with two shelves for short ends or tools or whatever. I plan to have a mount for my chop saw on the right side and an extendable arm out the left for any long pieces. I welded on some 1 3/4" square tubing for holsters for my mig gun ( a really nice feature). The shelves are made of 1 1/2" angle around the edges for things to hang on and will be filled in with a couple of pieces of expanded metal to let all the metal fillings fall through. I have to pickup the top and expanded metal tomorrow and once they are on I am going to build some sort of arm that comes up from the back with a telescoping clamp on it for holding stuff and maybe a work light. Its been a fun project so far looking for little ways to trick it out to make life easier. Heres a pic of the body of the table I finished today. I think this could be as much of a work in progress as my jeep.

Looks good....I need to learn to weld. 8-)

Got the top on today and the expanded metal in the shelves. Now I just need to get some tube to make an arm with a clamp on it to hold pieces or just to use as an arm rest and light stand.
